I myself am utterly convinced of the necessity of the priest if the laity are to function properly. I think the Church is fully alive only when the priest and laity work together. To encourage the laity, to help them to gain knowledge of their religion, to mobilise and to lead them in the apostolic work of the Church, that is what the priest means to the lay apostolate.
