It was with great joy and thanksgiving we celebrated the closing Mass of the Centenary of the Legion of Mary, November 19th in St Mary’s Pro Cathedral. What a privilege to have Cardinal Sean Brady, Archbishops Dermot Farrell, Diarmuid Martin and Bishop Brendan Leahy. The Chargé d’Affaires, Monsignor Julian Kabore and 30 priests.
A fitting tribute indeed for the work of the Legion over the past 100 years. And the 42nd anniversary of the death of our founder Frank Duff. The Palestrina Choir added greatness to the Mass as did our wonderful altar servers. It was such a joy to see a packed Church.
Cardinal Brady spoke of the devotion to Mary and Frank Duff’s mission to highlight the role of the laity which has spread worldwide. He mentioned the word rejoice many times, he encouraged us as legionaries to be active, be joyful and he paid thanks to the Legion to continue to bring the good news to all. May the Legion flourish and bear much fruit.
What joy Sr. Mary Murphy read the letter from His Holiness the Pope Francis, he assured of his prayers and we give thanks to almighty God for the responsibility of spreading the message of the Gospel.
(The letter from His Holiness Pope Francis is now available to view on this site).
Thanks to all who helped in the preparations for the Mass, Kairos productions, staff in the Pro Cathedral and Fr. Kieran McDermott Administrator.
It was a great opportunity to see old faces and new ones when we proceeded to the Gresham for refreshment and our Centenary Cake.
